Our story: The Cinim timeline

Dr. Badri Rickhi, deputy director of the Department of Psychiatry, Calgary General Hospital, leads a project on the combination of conventional medicine treatments with alternative approaches (e.g. acupuncture).

Dr. Badri Rickhi continues the alternative health care project on his own beyond the eventual closure of the Calgary General Hospital by the Government. The academic portion of the project evolves into the Integrative Health Institute at Mount Royal University.
Dr. Badri Rickhi is appointed an advisor to the World Health Organization on complementary health therapies.
Dr. Badri Rickhi initiates a philanthropic project in one of the most underdeveloped areas of India. Sri Narayani Peedam provides charitable and humanitarian care to benefit millions of people in the areas of health, education, employment, environmental conservation and spiritual guidance.www.narayanipeedam.org
Cinim is established and accredited as a charitable organization with a mandate to provide education and research in the areas of wellness and integrative medicine.
Dr. Badri Rickhi joins the Academic Consortium for Integrative Medicine & Health and is the first Canadian to sit on the executive committee. The Consortium advances integrative medicine and health through academic institutions and health systems. CINIM is one of the highly esteemed academic health centers and affiliate institutions on the steering committee. Members share a vision for the advancement, awareness and acceptance of integrative medicine.
Dr. Badri Rickhi is one of two practitioners recognized as agents of change in the revolutionary movement toward an integrative approach to clinical medical practice. The prestigious Dr. Roger’s Prize is awarded for excellence in complementary and alternative medicine.
Developed by Cinim in collaboration with Alberta Health Services, Mount Royal University, the University of Calgary, and youth volunteers, the BreathingRoom youth resilience program successfully  launches in Canada.
CINIM receives the prestigious True Imagination Award from the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta’s Circle on Mental Health and Addiction for BreathingRoom. The award is given to those who create new and imaginative ways to reduce stigma, promote understanding, deliver treatment or implement projects and programs.
Cinim collaborates with the Mental Health Commission of Canada to develop a briefing paper on delivering electronic mental health programs in Canada entitled E-Mental Health in Canada: Transforming the Mental Health System Using Technology.
Cinim leads the coordination of an international exchange program in medicine, research and education between the University of Calgary and the Sri Narayani Hospital and Research Centre in India. The objective is to encourage collaboration between the two institutions to share knowledge, expertise and experiences and help develop communities in need.
Cinim founder, Dr. Badri Rickhi, is recognized one of the 150 leading Canadians for mental health selected through the nationwide Difference Makers campaign led by CAMH (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health).
Cinim re-brands to focus on a new brand essence of connection – to self, to others and to the world. The circle symbolizes the strength found in connection; the fluidity and ongoing journey of life. The overlaps of the 4 rungs are the interconnectedness of people and the combined strength of the community served. The outer dots are one’s internal compass. The C visible when the lightest arc on the right is removed represents Compassion, Connection, Community – three core values present in our approach and all programs developed.
Cinim receives CMHA Alberta’s Professional Care Award. This is awarded to professional mental health organizations that exhibit special creativity and effectiveness in the provision of mental health care. Cinim is recognized for efforts across populations and communities and for developing and delivering programs for those who may not otherwise have immediate access to support.
BreathingRoom is re-launched in August 2020 featuring an upgraded technology platform, new and updated content, new branding, and advanced analytics and reporting capabilities.
Wellness Together Canada (WTC) is a mental health and substance use support website developed for Canadians wellnesstogether.ca. WTC is funded by Health Canada in response to the unprecedented increase in mental distress due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Cinim's new program in development for adults, InnerAccess, is to support mental wellness and the capacity to thrive.
Cinim’s new program in development, InnerAccess is developed for adults to support mental wellness and the capacity to thrive. Through the use of mind-body therapies and educational content, participants are guided to reflect on the impacts of their own responses to life challenges and how they can improve. The program helps individuals to alleviate stress and improve their relationships with others.
