Dr. Badri G. Rickhi
Director and Founding Member
A physician with specialty training in psychiatry, Dr. Rickhi
is the Research Chair at CINIM. He is a Clinical Associate
Professor with the University of Calgary in the Faculty of
Medicine and the vice-president of the Canadian Medical Acupuncture
Society. He has trained in various levels of ayurvedic medicine
(developed in India), traditional Chinese medicine, Tibetan
medicine, German biological medicine, acupuncture, ryodaraku
(Japanese medicine) and homeopathy. Dr. Rickhi has studied
Spirituality and Eastern philosophy. He has been an appointed
advisor to Health Canada on complementary therapies and a
past collaborator with the World Health Organization.
Dr. Francis H.Y. Green
Director
Dr. Green is a professor in the department of pathology and
laboratory medicine at the University of Calgary. He was the
former head of their respiratory research group. Dr. Green
was previously the head of the pathology section at the National
Institute for Occupational Safety and Health in the United
States. His expertise is in occupational and environmental
lung diseases, asthma and high-resolution, real-time microscopy.
He is currently evaluating several alternative/complementary
treatments for asthma.
Philip C. Swift
Founding Member
Philip is the Co-Chairman of ARC Financial
Corporation. He is one of CINIM’s three founding directors
and its first Chairman. While he no longer sits on the board
of directors, Philip remains an active member. His advice
and acute business acumen have been invaluable.
CINIM Staff
CINIM employs qualified and internationally
educated professionals who are leaders in the field of complementary
and alternative health research, thus embracing its values
of maintaining excellence. They are loyal to the cause of
demonstrating the positive effects of an integrative health
care approach on both the population and the cost of the health
care system.

Patricia Steele
Executive Director
Patricia brings to CINIM a wealth of experience
from public and private sector industries in the areas of
biomedical research, hospital administration, human resource
leadership, employee development and organizational effectiveness.
She holds a B.Sc. from McGill University, graduate level studies
in Educational Technology from Concordia University and is
currently completing an MBA at the University of Calgary.
Her strengths are in developing strategies, mobilizing resources
and implementation. Her skills, catalyzed by her passion to
contribute to improving health care delivery, will help CINIM
realize its vision of being the centre of excellence for integrative
medicine.
Sabine Moritz
B.Sc., M.Sc., Research Director
Sabine holds a B.Sc. and a M.Sc. in Biology
from the University of Aachen in Germany, as well as an M.Sc.
in Research and Evaluations Methods for Health Care Professionals
from NESCOT, London, England. After completing the first part
of a PhD program in Epidemiology at the University of Calgary,
Sabine studied acupuncture at the Alberta College of Traditional
Chinese Medicine. She has over 15 years experience as a medical
researcher, particularly in the area of clinical trials.
Andrea Neitzer
M.Sc., Clinical Trial Coordinator
Andrea holds an M.Sc. in Nutrition and Dietetics from the
University of Bonn, Germany, and completed her thesis at the SEAMEO-Regional Center of
Community Nutrition at the University of Indonesia, Jakarta. Andrea has conducted medical
research in multiple therapeutic areas for over seven years and specializes in the project
and site management of clinical trials. Andrea is excited about supporting CINIM’s vision
of being the centre of excellence for natural and integrative medicine.
Tracy Xu
B.A., Study Coordinator / Data Analyst
Tracy holds a Bachelors Degree in Medical
English and a Minor in Health Administration from the Xi’an
Medical University in China. She is currently completing her
Masters Degree in Epidemiology at the University of Calgary.
Tracy has experience in both quantitative and qualitative
health research with the University of Calgary and the Calgary
Health Region.
CINIM Associates
Dr. Hude Quan
Ph.D., Associate
Dr. Quan is an Assistant Professor at
the Department of Community Health Sciences and the Centre
for Health and Policy Studies at the University of Calgary.
He is also a Population Health Investigator with the Alberta
Heritage Foundation for Medical Research and a New Investigator
with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. Dr. Quan
has received extensive training in medicine, public health,
epidemiology and health services research; together these
form a strong foundation for conducting methodological and
applied studies in population health, and in health services
utilization and outcomes.
Patricia Paccagnan
R.N., B.N.
Patti graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelors
of Nursing degree. She began her nursing career working in
general medicine, geriatrics and then in psychiatry. In 1993,
Patti began working in the field of alternative medicine using
a variety of alternative approaches. Patti is excited to now
be involved in researching natural and integrative therapies
and will continue to use her knowledge of conventional and
alternative medicine.
Marianne Mundy
RN, CAE
Marianne graduated from the Foothills Hospital School of Nursing.
The majority of her career has been in pediatrics. She has worked at the Alberta Children’s Hospital
for over 20 years in general pediatrics, the emergency department, telephone advice and as a nurse clinician.
For the past 8 years Marianne has been a certified asthma educator in the asthma clinic. After years of working with
families with asthmatic children she finds it exciting to be part of a study that explores alternative methods to
help keep childhood asthma in control.
Mingfu Liu
PhD.
Mingfu Liu received both his B.Sc. and
M. Sc. in China. He obtained his PhD in Statistics from the
University of Alberta and a Computer Science Diploma from
the University of Calgary. Mingfu has been a senior statistical
consultant for over twenty years and he provides statistical
advice and analysis services to CINIM. He is also a Senior
Research Analyst with the Calgary Health Region and an Adjunct
Professor at the Northwest Agricultural University in China.
Mary Theresa Kelly
MA
Mary holds a Master of Arts in Communication Studies from
the University of Calgary. Mary is a scientific writer, qualitative
research advisor and analyst for CINIM. Mary also holds a
position with a Complementary Alternative Medicine research
team at the University of British Columbia School of Nursing.
She keeps an active hand in creative writing projects and
recently had a story published in the literary magazine “Event”.
Mary has had a life-long interest and involvement in alternative
and complementary-healing.
