Dr. John Toews
Board Chair
John graduated from Medicine at the University of Manitoba in 1969 and received his Fellowship in Psychiatry in 1974. He remained at U of M until 1988. While there, his writing was focused on community psychiatry and on the implications of the adult life cycle on the psychotherapeutic treatment of individuals and families. He joined the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Calgary in 1988 where his writing focused on medical education. Concomitantly, he developed an interest in the relationship between spirituality and mental health. He is a founding member of the Canadian Research Institute of Spirituality and Healing. He is also a member of the Integrative Health Collaborative Committee of the Calgary Health Region. In 1994 he published No Longer Alone: Mental Health and the Church as a primer on psychiatry and mental health issues for church based study.
Stephen H. Frank
Director
Stephen has a Bachelor of Commerce degree (Finance) from the University of Calgary and has been involved in oil & gas trading and marketing since 1985 - first with Gibson Petroleum and later with Renaissance Energy. In 2002 he co-founded Boomerang Energy Marketing, which provides marketing services to oil & gas producing companies. Stephen’s business knowledge and abilities are valuable to CINIM.
Kjelti Wilkes Kellough
Kjelti Wilkes Kellough is a partner of Tingle Merritt LLP in Calgary. She is a corporate commercial lawyer whose practice focuses primarily on corporate finance transactions for both lenders and high growth industrial and technology companies. Kjelti obtained her undergraduate degree (B.A., 1993) from Augustana University College and her law degree (LL.B., 1996) from the University of Calgary, where she received numerous academic and community service awards. Kjelti is currently finishing her Masters of Law in e-business through Osgoode Hall Law School (York University).
Dr. Badri G. Rickhi
MB, BS, FRCP (C)
A physician with specialty training in psychiatry, Dr. Rickhi is the Research Chair at CINIM. He is a Clinical Associate Professor with the University of Calgary in the Faculty of Medicine. He has trained in various levels of Ayurvedic medicine (developed in India), traditional Chinese medicine, Tibetan medicine, German biological medicine, acupuncture, Ryodaraku (Japanese medicine) and homeopathy. Dr. Rickhi has studied Spirituality and Eastern philosophy. He has been an appointed advisor to Health Canada on complementary therapies and was a past collaborator with the World Health Organization. He is still serving as a steering committee member of Consortium of Academic Centers for Integrative Medicine (CACHIM).
Derek Bullen
Derek Bullen is President and CEO of S.i. Systems Ltd., one of Canada’s largest professional staffing firms with over 1,600 professionals across Canada. Derek has an ARCT from the Toronto Royal Conservatory of Music, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Calgary.
Kelly Blackshaw, BPE, CEP
Business Development Director, Foothills Health Consultants Ltd.
Kelly is a Kinesiologist and certified exercise physiologist. She has been with Foothills Health Consultants since 1979. She co-authored Foothills Health Consultants research based Workforce Health Risk Assessment in 1996 with Dr. Derrick Thompson and has spoken extensively across Canada on Workplace Health. In conjunction with a multidisciplinary group of health professionals, Kelly designed and researched two comprehensive behaviour change programs - one for stress management and the other CINIM Website Changes – March 2011 on bridging self-care with health-care. Both of these programs produced significant health benefits for people suffering from stress and chronic diseases. With her colleagues she has since co-authored two books, Stress Mastery and Bridging Self-Care with Health-Care.
Maureen Higgins
Maureen has been working in the Calgary business community for most of her professional career. An operations executive who currently holds the position of VP, Integrated Network Operations and Information Services for AltaLink, an electrical transmission owner / operator in the province of Alberta. Previous Maureen worked for TELUS in both the regulated and deregulated areas of the business.
Maureen holds an MBA from the Haskayne School of Business and a BA in Economics from the University of Calgary.
